Study Plan

Linguistics can be studied as a major under the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science.

Bachelor of Arts

A major in Linguistics (in the B.A. and B.A.(Communication Studies) degrees), requires:

  • 12 points of Level 1 units (ie two 6-point units)
  • 36 points of Level 2 and 3 units, which must include:
    • LING2202 Grammatical Theory (Syntax)
    • LING2201 Phonetics and Phonology
Students wishing to do a major in Linguistics are strongly advised to do both LING2201 and LING2202 in their second year as these are required prerequisites for the Level 3 units.

Bachelor of Science

The same units as for the Bachelor of Arts are required for the Bachelor of Science. See the Science Courses Guide for more information.
