Textbook and Recommended Reading

The assigned textbook for this unit is:

Wardhaugh, R. 2006. An introduction to sociolinguistics. [5th edition] Malden, Mass.: Blackwell Publishers.

Readings will be assigned mainly from this edition of the textbook, but you will find very similar content covered in any of the earlier editions.

Of course, there are many different introductory textbooks for Linguistics, and a choice amongst them is difficult. You can browse from texts kept in the Library's closed reserve section you are also strongly encouraged to browse in the library and for resources on-line. Recommended Browsing: The OED on-line is a great resource for linguistics students. UWA has a subscription, but you'll need to be using a machine on campus to get access.
