Linguistics on the Web
Resources for Linguistics Units Streamed audio recordings of lectures and access to the Powerpoint slides used in lectures are available through the Lectopia system, accessible via the WebCT pages for the unit. PDF copies of Assignments for this unit are also available through WebCT.
Other Internet Resources
Keeping track of available linguistics resources on the Web would be a full time job in itself. We have listed some resouces on the Linguistics site (see t he Resources for Linguists link). Another good place to start browsing is the Linguist List Home Page. From there, you'll be able to find a number of tools of interest to beginning linguistics students, including:
- phonetics and other fonts
- speech sound demonstrations
- natural language analysis (parsing) software
- materials from other introductory linguistics courses
- new book notices and reviews
- discussions about current issues in linguistics
- links to a wide range of special interest mailing lists all dealing with languages and linguistics
The Linguist List, the world's largest academic list, was first developed and implemented at Linguistics UWA! See History of the Linguist List.
There are any number of compilations of links to linguistics resources on the web. Karen Chung's (National University of Taiwan) page is one of the best collections of links to other useful pages I've seen! Of particular interest: SIL Glossary of Linguistic Terms Australian Wordmap BBC - Word4Word
