Research interests in Australian Aboriginal languages,
particularly those of the Pilbara region of Western Australia;
including Panyjima, Martuthunira, Nyamal and Yingkarta. Past and
current work includes grammatical description and language

Research interests include description and historical
reconstruction of the languages of the Pacific, particularly the
languages of Micronesia, and of Northwest Semitic languages. Also
grammaticalisation, phonology and morphology, syntax
(particularly constraint-based and categorial grammars), formal
semantics and computational linguistics.

My research interests lie in the broad areas of formal
semantics, the semantics/pragmatics interface, semantic change,
semantic creativity and variation in meaning. My most recent
projects investigate innovative uses of the present perfect in
Australian English as well as cross-linguistic comparison of the
development of perfects.

My research interests centre around computational linguistics.
At the moment I am focussed on the application of computational
and Bayesian methods to identifying language relatedness and
doing comparative reconstruction.
